"COUPON  COUNTDOWN"
It seems to happen more  and more,
That when I enter any store
A rebate-offer lies in waiting,
To set my heartbeat palpitating.
And simply out of common greed
I buy some things I do not need,
For getting back a refund-check  is
A thrill, I'm told; it sure as heck is.
But checkout girls, though cute  and sweet,
May fail to tender my receipt.
Or possibly I've not acquired
The UPC code as desired.
I treat the offer carelessly,
To tend  to it when time is free.
But when I deign to do it one day,
I find the thing expired Monday.
The rebate guys who oversee
These schemes have set their sights on me.
They know that whilst I can't refuse them,
The  chances are I'll never use them.
There's not one time I can recall
Not  paying full price after all.
