“GOOD FENCES = LOUSY NEIGHBORS” Reveal to me thy fate, oh, neighbor Smith, Whose domicile is that adjoining mine. 'Twas you, old friend, I shared expenses with, To build ourselves a handsome bound'ry line. With loving care we placed each stone and sought The beauty of our shelters to enhance, And thereby weld our comradeship (we thought), Not reckoning on unkind circumstance. A fence, while lending beauty 'til it rots, Has little use in friendship, so I fear. We placed that charming wall between our lots, And haven't seen each other for a year!
